Mothering Sunday

Being a mum of seven year old twin boys, Mother's Day is something I really look forward to. Not for the expensive gifts, but the quiet whispering where home made gifts are discussed and prepared, the shouts 'no mummies allowed' and the proud eyes full of expectation when the gifts are handed to me on Sunday morning.

Although it would have been lovely to go away for the weekend and we will miss all the families spoiling their mum at our cottages, it is definitely the little things that make the day special and the pandemic has highlighted this.

Not being creative myself, all these genes were definitely passed to my sisters, I often try to find something special, handcrafted or produced by community projects as gifts for friends and family. We are lucky in the New Forest that there are plenty of independent gift shops and artisan producers in the area. In the past year, lots of businesses and individuals had to reinvent themselves. It has meant that we have gained quite a few new small businesses in the area, offering fantastic products and services.

From afternoon tea delivery, local florists, local gin and businesses working together to provide a full three course meal cooked or uncooked, there is plenty of choice to spoil local mums. I am sure you can find similar in your Mum's local area too!
